Inventor of barbed wire. Joseph Glidden invented barbed wire in 1873. He was partnered with Isaac Ellwood until 1876, when Glidden left the wire business. Other business ventures included running a hotel, partnership in a Texas ranch with Henry B. Sanborn, and founding the local DeKalb newspaper. Barbed wire manufacturer. In partnership with Joseph Glidden, then the Washburn-Moen Company. Organized the Ellwood Manufacturing Company in 1889 which was sold to John W. Gates in 1898.
